Journal Scope

The Mountain West Journal of Pharmacy (MWJP) aims to provide dissemination opportunities for research, quality improvement projects, and ideas that advance pharmacy.

We seek submissions that align with the mission and vision of our partner organizations:

We welcome a broad range of submission topics including, but not limited to:

  • Advocacy and policy
  • Education
  • Healthcare service delivery
  • Interdisciplinary collaboration
  • Patient and medication outcomes
  • Pharmacy practice

Accepted submissions are e-published twice yearly: August/September and January/February

 
Accepted Submission Types

We accept articles in the following categories:

  • Research or quality improvement: Studies or projects answering clear objective(s) using established methodology, and with results.
    • Recommended text headings: Background, Objective(s), Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusion
    • Maximum word counts and tables/figures: 4,000 words; 5 tables and/or figures
  • Reviews: Structured (systematic reviews with or without meta-analysis, scoping reviews) and unstructured/narrative reviews covering a topic of interest.
    • Recommended text headings for structured reviews: Background, Objective(s), Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusion
    • No recommended text headings for unstructured reviews
    • Maximum word counts and tables/figures: 5,000 words; 5 tables and/or figures
  • Practice features: Innovations or advancements in practice highlighting a noteworthy endeavor at the practice site. Formal evaluations or results are not necessary.
    • Recommended text headings: Background, Objective(s), Practice Description, Practice Innovation or Advancement, Evaluation methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusion
    • Maximum word counts and tables/figures: 4,000 words; 5 tables and/or figures
  • Commentaries: Thoughtful reflections and opinions on healthcare and related topics.
    • No recommended text headings for commentaries
    • Maximum word counts and tables/figures: 2,000 words; 2 tables and/or figures
  • Case reports or series: Detailed reports on a patient or group of patients
    • Recommended text headings: Background, Case Summary, Discussion/Practice Implications
    • Maximum word counts and tables/figures: 2,000 words; 2 tables and/or figures
 
Manuscript Preparation

Authors are required to use the MWJP template. Submitted article files should contain the following information:

  • Title: No more than 20 words
  • For all authors:
  • Full names
  • Degree(s)
  • Affiliation
  • Designated corresponding author with email address
  • Abstract: No more than 300 words, using the recommended text headings noted in submission types
  • Keywords: 3-5 keywords
  • Main body of text
  • Acknowledgements, funding, conflicts of interest, and use of artificial intelligence (AI)
  • References: AMA formatted
  • Supplemental attachments (if applicable): No more than 3 files
 
Submission Process

After Submission

All submissions will be initially reviewed by MWJP personnel (Co-Editor or other personnel) to ensure alignment with the journal’s scope and compliance with manuscript submission requirements.

If deemed appropriate after initial review, manuscripts will undergo peer review by 1-2 peer reviewers. Peer review feedback will be coalesced by MWJP personnel and returned to the corresponding author to address and make revisions. After revisions, MWJP personnel and/or reviewers will determine if the revised manuscript is acceptable for publication, further revisions are required, or the work should be rejected.

Articles will be published during the next planned publication. Articles must be accepted within two weeks of a planned publication.

 
ISHP Fall Conference

Poster presentation abstracts presented at the ISHP Fall Conference will automatically be published in MWJP.
